Q&A: Team Wales Surfer for EuroSurf Juniors 2026, Elijah Jones

Welsh groms are getting ready for EuroSurf Juniors which takes place in Bundoran from September 24 – October 4.

After showing up consistently to club, inter-club and national contests, long hours training, and surfing everything the Atlantic throws at us, these young shredders have the honour of representing their country against Europe’s best.

But who are they and what gets them frothing? We take a closer look with our exclusive EuroSurf Juniors Team Wales profiles!

Presenting the versatile west Wales style guru, Elijah Jones.

Home break: Freshwater West.

Club: Pembrokeshire Surf Club.

Stance: Goofy.

How many years surfing? I first started surfing around ten years ago when I was only six years old. However I was in the water bodyboarding and body surfing a few years before that.

Who’s sponsoring you? Shibui and Saltrock are my main sponsors.

Favourite wave in Wales: I have a few waves I love here but Broad Haven South has always been my favourite as I quite like surfing wedges and it’s quite fun to try and get a good barrel there. My best barrels have probably come from BHS on its day.

Favourite wave abroad: It’s hard to choose as there are so many great options but I quite like Ponta Ruiva in Portugal as it’s a long left hand point break. However I do also quite like Famara in Lanzarote as it’s a good powerful beach break that can hold bigger swells.

Favourite surfer: My favourite surfer is probably Jordy Smith as I love his rail surfing and prefer his style and power compared to most others on the CT.  I also quite like Cole Houshmand’s surfing and I’d love to surf like one of those guys when I’m older.

Best competition achievement: I’d say my best competitive achievement is tied between winning the U18s Longboard Welsh title in 2025 and 2026, and winning the U16s shortboard title in 2025.

It’s hard to choose a favourite but those are my favourites from both formats.

Surfing goals over the next 12 months: I’d love to try and make a few heats in the Euros on either the longboard or shortboard. I’d also love to win the U18s title for both longboarding and shortboarding at the Welsh Nationals this year. My main goal however is just to train and see where that’ll get me although a few more Welsh titles would be amazing.

Best thing about surfing in Wales: I love how many unexplored waves there are on our coastline as I love the exploration aspect of surfing and going to new waves and seeing whether they are as good as they look. I also quite enjoy the cold as it can deter crowds from pumping surf in the winter. Lastly, I love the community of committed surfers here, as no matter the weather there will always be someone you know out in the lineup and it’s always fun to share a few waves with your friends, especially deep into winter when not many others are around, let alone in the water.
