Q&A: Team Wales Surfer for EuroSurf Juniors 2026, Josie Hawke

Welsh groms are getting ready for EuroSurf Juniors which takes place in Bundoran from September 24 – October 4.

After showing up consistently to club, inter-club and national contests, long hours training, and surfing everything the Atlantic throws at us, these young shredders have the honour of representing their country against Europe’s best.

But who are they and what gets them frothing? We take a closer look with our exclusive EuroSurf Juniors Team Wales profiles!

Here's Pembs charger, Josie Hawke.

Home break:  Newgale, Pembrokeshire.

Club: Pembrokeshire Surf Club.

Stance: Regular.

How many years surfing? Four or five.

Who’s sponsoring you? Mystic Boarding are my main sponsor. I am also supported by BCRS Business Loans; Dawn Patrol App; Fourth Surfboards, and Surf Ears.

Favourite wave in Wales: Fresh West - there's such a variety of powerful waves, from the beach to the reef.

Favourite wave abroad: Any beach break in France.

Favourite surfer: Andy Irons - I loved his style and how he reminds me of the freedom in surfing.

Best competition achievement: Winning the UK Rip Curl GromSearch at U16s in 2025.

Surfing goals over the next 12 months: To improve my technique, tackle bigger waves and sections, and just keep pushing harder.

Best thing about surfing in Wales: The lack of people in the winter due to the cold, and surfing empty reefs or beach breaks is the best!
