Langland's Finest in Action in WSL Taghazout Pro

Patrick Langdon-Dark, Alys Barton, and Elliot Barton go up against the world’s best wave-riders at the Pro Taghazout Bay in Morocco this week.

The trio, who each surf for the Langland Board Riders (LBR), are among ten British surfers hoping to make a statement at the event, which marks the final stage of the World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS).

The competition takes place across two of Morocco’s most renowned breaks: the legendary Anchor Point, a long, high-performance right-hand wave, and Anza, a punchier beach break rideable on more variable conditions.

With 4,000 qualifying points up for grabs, the stakes are high; the seven highest-ranked men and four highest-ranked women will progress onto the 2026 Challenger Series – the critical pathway to the elite Championship Tour.

Patrick Langdon-Dark, Alys Barton and her brother Elliot, grew up surfing the waves around Langland and the Gower peninsula. While Patrick and Alys are seasoned competitors at international level, Elliot is in the early stages of his career and will pick up valuable experience amid world-class competition in Morocco.

“It’s been good. Me and a few of the boys came a week early and lucked out with fun waves. We also had (GB Surfing Team Manager) Gwen Spurlock here filming which was a massive help.

“I think if the contest runs at Anchor or Anza, I don’t mind. I’ve been at both over the last few years. I’ve spent a lot of time going right in heats so I feel comfortable at either break.

“I’ve had a good solid winter training and testing new boards so I’m looking forward to have a good dig at the comp. Let’s see what happens.”

Currently ranked 12th in Europe and starting in the top seed round, a strong result for Alys Barton could be a career-defining, with Challenger Series qualification within reach.

Alys said:

“The waves are looking incredible and the energy here is unreal. I’ve been training hard and I feel more than ready to take on Morocco.

“I’m in such a great headspace right now and I’m so happy with my surfing, enjoying every moment and ready to win. I know I need a strong result but I’m incredibly determined.

“Seeing so many of the girls I compete with and have beaten, qualify for the tour just reminds me that I can do this too.”

The squad is led by GB Surfing Head Coach Mick Cain and Team Manager Gwen Spurlock, herself a former Welsh and GB international surfer.
