Day One – The Opening Ceremony.

ISA Vissla World Junior Surfing Championships

Sunday 11th October.
The ISA and Oceanside welcomed the 322 surfers from 36 countries, the surf was pumping and it was 96 degrees in the shade!!
A short parade was held along the sea front at Oceanside, you had to feel sorry for the Norwegian team who were wearing traditional clothing and the South Africans who wore the classic green and gold blazers. Our Juniors were wilting in the non traditional Welsh kit of t-shirts ( kindly provided by Oath ) and shorts!

Team Manager Stu Bentley managed to keep the groms hydrated during the short walk to the Oceanside Arena, no mean task given the number in the team and the number of bottles he carried! Thanks Stu, legend!

Team Captains Rhys Barfield and Emily Williams carried the flag and sand from Rest Bay, Porthcawl for the pouring of the sand ceremony.

During the ceremony it was announced that next years World Juniors will be held in the Azores..

Attention did wander occasionally, Oceanside was looking pretty fun with hardly anyone out

Rumours that the team had ice baths after training had finished are completely true by the way!
