LBR and WSF Surf School – Santa Surf Off
On Saturday 19th December Langland Board Riders (LBR) hosted their first – now to be annual event – Santa Surf Off in collaboration with WSF Surf School. It consisted of over 30 entrants in Santa themed attire taking over a busy Langland Shorebreak on foam boards…all in aid of Wales Air Ambulance, Waves for Water and the club (LBR).
After a gathering in the car park, foam boards were given out, kindly provided by Dan Hart of Progress Surf. The surfing Santa Clauses made their way to the water in an excited manner, plenty of hoots and “yews” called and the line up was soon taken over by red and white dots. Christmas had well and truly arrived at Langland Bay.
By now a large number of spectators had lined up along the Langland promenade to watch and a great show was put on for them in the form of surfing Santas, Elves and Reindeers, throwing shakas and sharing waves in true festive spirit! Staggeringly just over £110 in donations was raised very quickly.
After many waves, one-by-one, waterlogged and cold the Santas left the water with their suits now 10 times heavier than when they entered, with some even missing their beards and hats, and made their way back up the beach to get warmed up. Event Organisers had a quick beach clean and collected all the washed up clothing and beards!
The event was the brain child of Jamie Andrews , previously the WSF Surf School instructors had organized but with Jamie and Nathaniel James of Langland Board Riders worked together to make the event even bigger and better than ever. It’s open to all, and will run again next year.
We hope to see many from the wider Wales Surfing Community there to have fun and enjoy the festive vibes while raising money for great causes.
